BANES Council now have a webpage that can show information relating to your house. There is information on local planning applications, road works and other current issues including next collection dates, all of which comes up when you insert your postcode and much of which is displayed as a map. It is well worth bookmarking in case there is a local issue which you want to be informed about quickly.

Recently taken over by Boots.As I found out recently there is no longer a rota list of duty chemists open outside normal hours available in the windows. The official advice is to call NHS Direct on 0845 4647. No longer a 10 second glance at the list – now a diagnosis and lots of questions. I ended up calling the chemist from the web starting with those closest until one answered.

Noise Nuisance

The parish council has no statutory powers to deal with such disturbances, this is the responsibility of BANES. All reports of noise nuisance out of hours should be made to BANES on 01225 477477. Noise disturbances during the day should be reported to the Council Connect helpline on 01225 394041. Please avoid calling Parish Councillors about this problem as enforcement action can only be taken by BANES.

What would happen if there was a fire at Bath Abbey

From BRSLI… The terrible fire at Notre Dame in Paris made your Editor ponder how Bath Abbey would fare in a blaze? An enquiry to Avon Fire & Rescue produced this reassuring reply from David Lindsay: “Our records show that Bath Abbey complies with the Fire Service Order 2006. This act ensures that the building is maintained to a high level to ensure the people that use the building are safe. It purpose is also to keep the building as safe as possible from accidental fires starting. The Notre Dame fire was possibly caused by renovation work being carried out. It’s a sad and unfortunate accident.The French fire service did what they could to save it with the equipment they had. As for Bath Abbey with regards to firefighting, Avon Fire and Rescue has 4 aerial appliances that would easily reach all parts of the roof. There is also an unlimited water supply via the river. I hope this answers your questions, you can rest assured that the Abbey is good hands and if for whatever reason it did have a fire in the roof we have the right equipment to deal with it safely”. Air Ambulance are looking for fundraising volunteers

Great Western Air Ambulance are looking for volunteers, they will be at the Bathford Parish Council APM on the 29th April at the School Hall from 7.30pm if you would like to discuss this in person with them. Could you offer just a few hours of your time as part of a dedicated team of staff and amazing volunteers working together to raise the £3 million necessary to keep the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity operational? We are looking for friendly, approachable and enthusiastic individuals to assist in a whole host of upcoming events, community collections, public presentations – the choice is yours! The hours are totally flexible based on your availability and preferences. Some volunteers commit a few hours a week, some twice a year – we are grateful for all of the help we receive. GWAAC couldn’t provide such vital and advanced emergency services without the help of its volunteers and the support of people like you.
